Introducing a mindful mending meetup – a new series at Time & Tide Coffee – hosted monthly by Dana Wissmiller and Briana Campbell. In mindful mending, visible stitching and thoughtful patches add new vitality to your old items by becoming part of the clothing itself. Coming out of a rejection of fast fashion and heavy consumerism, we’re seeing more and more people interested in thrifting, buying upcycled clothing, and mending what they already own. Yet even with this desire to mend and create, a lot of people lack the knowledge or the tools to do it themselves. This meetup is designed to give people the materials, support, and camaraderie to DIY their own clothing repairs.
Our first mending meetup is focused on denim, so bring your holey jeans, your elbow-worn denim jackets, and your crotchless Daisy Dukes. We’ll have needles, thread, material for making patches, and, if you’ve never stitched before, can help you get started.
The first mindful mending meetup takes place Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 PM.
The second meetup will be Thursday, November 21st, with a focus on woolens. In subsequent meetups we’ll mend stockings/socks, cotton, linen, and even your favorite T-shirts.
